A MESSAGE FROM VICTOR VILLASENOR

Dear Friends,

YES! HBO is going to make the Rain of Gold miniseries!  Hurrah! Hurrah! And it is you, dear readers, and your families and friends who have made all this possible!  Thank you for having sent so many letters to HBO that they finally cried uncle!

The HBO miniseries is scheduled for 7 hours, one hour for each night of the week.  The script has changed immensely. Different from the book, our story starts in the US, and we flash back to Mexico with the voice-overs of my parents.  What happens in Mexico will be done in Spanish with subtitles, which we think is absolutely great!  And we thank HBO for having the guts to do this.  What happens in the United States will be done in English, of course.

Greg Nava and Barbara Martinez are busy writing the script.  Barbara is so much in love with this project that she didn’t just read the books, she actually typed them out.  Imagine the hours of work involved!

The miniseries is scheduled to be the largest Latino series of movies ever done for commercial TV.  And one of the major TV stations in Mexico wants to partner up with HBO and use the Rain of Gold miniseries as the 100th year anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.  Filming will be in 2011; airing will hopefully be in 2012!

Tell your friends and family!  Shout it to the heavens!  It’s only taken us 20 years.
